Indonesia has various types of high-quality vegetables and has the potential to bring in large foreign exchange for the country. Indonesia’s export markets for vegetable commodities cover various countries in Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, and America.
According to a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export value of national vegetables in January-December 2021 reached US$ 86.44 million or around Rp. 1.25 trillion.
This value decreased by 24.15% compared to sales in the same period the previous year, which was US$ 113.97 million or around Rp 1.64 trillion.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s vegetable exports reached 86.95 million kg. This volume decreased by 33.64% compared to exports in the same period in 2020 which amounted to 131.02 million kg.
Some areas that are known as centers of vegetables in Indonesia include South Kalimantan, East Java, West Java, Central Java, West Sumatra, North Sulawesi, and Jambi. Fresh vegetables that are usually exported are lettuce, spinach, kale, cabbage, and carrots.
