Jakarta (20/3) – Indonesia is currently a member country of the WTO (World Trade Organization). Where trade between countries in the world is very open, as long as it can be mutually beneficial for both parties. Likewise, with food, it is unavoidable that indeed Indonesia as an agricultural country still needs agricultural products from other countries, bearing in mind that there are still certain products that cannot be produced in our country. For example, garlic and several types of vegetable, fruit, and flower commodities. However, we cannot fulfill all things by import. Domestic production with good quality has been regularly exported to other countries. Commodities such as mangosteen 2016 have been routinely exported to 29 countries.
It should be noted that Indonesia’s vegetable export products in 2016 such as cabbage, mustard greens, and cauliflower amounted to 40,240 tons and 77 other types of vegetables were exported to Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Netherlands with good economic value and trust from consumers in the destination country.
Likewise, with Indonesian fruits in 2016, exports of round coconut, mangosteen and banana amounted to 564,372 tons and 176 other types of fruit were in great demand by world consumers. Indonesian round coconuts have been routinely exported to China, Thailand, Japan, and 16 other countries. For mangosteen fruit products, Indonesia has also exported to 29 countries. Meanwhile, Japan, China, and Malaysia are the third largest importers of bananas from Indonesia.
Apart from fruits and vegetables, horticultural products, especially Cambodian flowers, jasmine, and chrysanthemums from Indonesia are also a special attraction for other countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, and several other countries. Data for 2016 showed that the number of flower exports to the country was 4,982 tons.
Export data for 2017 from January to March 2017, Indonesian horticultural products remain excellent in their destination countries. Exports of vegetables in 2017 such as cabbage, chickpeas, and aircrews ranked 3rd highest for exports of 132,878 tonnes.
As for fresh fruit export products for the period January – March 2017 such as round coconut, mangosteen, and banana totaling 173,865 tons which have been routinely exported to various countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, China, and 20 other countries.
Meanwhile, export data for horticultural products, especially Cambodian and jasmine flowers for the period January – March 2017, Indonesia exported 1,067 tons to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and Singapore.
Indonesia has various types of fruits, vegetables, and flowers that are of high quality and have a high potential to generate large amounts of foreign exchange. Through these data, it can be shown that the Indonesian export market for horticultural products such as fruit, vegetables, and flowers is in demand by many countries.
